Travelers everywhere have long set their sights on Kansas City as a central gathering place, and that goes back to the days of flatboat captains, fur traders and cattlemen camped along the Missouri River. Soon the transportation industry steamed in with a modern mix of cultures that shaped the city's storylines.
Dott Boss in Hotel Indigo is located in the Fairfax building at 11th & Baltimore. When it was built in 1928 it served as the home to the rail lines ticketing office and at one time housed over 20 rail company tenants. The bar in Dott Boss is shaped as the ticketing counter once was.
As a transportation hub, the business generated by travelers touched all the local businesses in downtown Kansas City especially the diners, lounges and restaurants. Some of the most famous musicians would come play at the restaurants around Baltimore Avenue. Dott Boss was considered the "Friendliest Entertainer in KC", she performed regularly at Gus' Restaurant and Italian Gardens. Frank DiCapo, who owned Italian Gardens once said "Baltimore Avenue was the real avenue of influence in KC."
In 2004, the First National Bank building was remodeled and the Kansas City Central Library moved in, then creating the Library District. With each restoration of the classic buildings, in the district, the testament to economic, artistic and architectural achievement is found in the within.
Hotel Indigo/Dott Boss are excited to part of this wonderful historic neighborhood. Come visit us and travel through time.
